Project Westward Waters organizers wanted
teachers to not only learn about the Lewis and Clark expedition,
they wanted teachers to EXPERIENCE the Lewis and Clark
expedition. It is impossible to re-create all of the
hardships and events of this historical event in our nation’s
past. The one thing that was possible, however, was to allow
teachers to see, feel, touch, smell, and taste some of the same
things that the Corps of Discovery experienced.
During ten days in the summer of 2003, the
teachers of Westward Waters experienced the Lewis and Clark
trail. The slideshow attached to this article is captioned
with excerpts taken directly from some of the teachers’
journals. As with Lewis and Clark, each participant was asked
to record their observations.
Please read some of the comments from this
incredible journey. Two hundred years later, the magnificence
and awe of this country still inspire and fulfill the
soul.
