slide show  K-4 American History "Theme Week"

Peg Lutt and Lori Ruskamp decided to work together to develope and deliver a building wide American History theme for a week of study for the K-4 Wayne Elementary School.  The objectives of the "Theme Week" would be to:

  • Enhance the learning opportunities for all students, K-4
  • Share the Westward Waters experiences, resources and gained knowledge
  • Involve community resource people
  • Incorporate parent participation
  • Recognize the historic bicentennial commemoration of Lewis and Clark
  • Dispel Native American stereotypes
  • Bridge two cultures

Both teachers, having become much more attuned to cultural inaccuracies through participation in the Native American portion of the Westward Waters grant, agreed on the importance of presenting an awareness and the important impact of the Native American encounters with the Corps of Discovery.
