The following excerpts are
from Westward Waters' Participants describing year two's travel
workshop. The slide show also contains excerpts from the
journals narrating each photo.
"Last year we were a Corps of Rediscovery, rediscovering
the trail of Lewis and Clark. This year we were on a Trail of
Discovery, discovering not just the history of Native Americans (we
could read text books to find that) but their culture."
"The main thing I learned is that I know nothing. The
more I learn, the more I realize there is a whole lot more to
know."
"Everyday had more than one great adventure and experience.
It stretched our knowledge of American History. Our
knowledge of our country, our culture, our traditions, and our
government knowledge has been increased. It was an
unbelievable experience in learning. I wouldn't trade this
experience and the people I've met for anything."
"I am recovering from our trip and I am starting to look
through my new resources. Thinking and planning for next year
is always a part of any teacher's summer. This year is
different though, now I have a greater understanding and excitement
for Native American related topics. I have already shared my
newly gained information with my friends and family, now it is time
to share with my students. I am focusing on my excitement and
hope it is contagious!"
