The Westward Waters group,
along with their families, met once again in Omaha at the Embassy Suites downtown. This weekend workshop
proved to be full of learning and excitement. It also gave
each family the opportunity to gain a better idea, understanding,
and an appreciation of the work involved and required throughout
this project.
Friday
evening brought the group together at the Mormon Trail Center Winter Quarters Museum for a
short tour and presentation. The group was then asked to meet
back at the hotel for a brief meeting. Saturday brought the
group to NebraskaCity for a tour
and explanation of the Old Freighter’s museum. After a
wonderful lunch at the Lied Lodge, the group traveled to
Council Bluffs where they toured the Union Pacific Railroad Museum and the
Kanesville Tabernacle. These significant locations helped
provide more information in preparation for this coming
summer’s travel along the Oregon/Mormon Trail.
After
arriving back at the hotel, the group had the chance to freshen up
for the evening’s festivities – A Pizza Party!
During the party, pictures of year two’s summer travel were
shared (all 750 pictures). It was also during this event that
the video from year two was unveiled.
Sunday
afternoon the group met in Council Bluffs once more for a visit to the Western Historic Trails Center.
After viewing a short film and touring the facilities, the group
and their families headed home. This proved to be yet another
successful weekend full of learning and excitement shared by all
and left to fill the pages of our Westward Waters’
“History” Books.
