The following excerpts are
from Westward Waters' Participants describing year three's travel
workshop. The slide show also contains excerpts from the
journals narrating each photo.
"These past three years have passed much more quickly than
I ever imagined. Reading my journals, looking at my pictures,
viewing the videos Bill put together, and reminiscing with Lori
reminds me of the wonderful experiences I have had. The
learning was more than I expected. The work was worth it all.
I will never be able to explain it to anyone who wasn't a
part of Westward Waters, not even my family. I have tried.
They listen and smile and ask for more but the retelling does
not do the tale justice. You just had to be there! What
my Westward Waters Family and I have shared will be with me for my
lifetime. Would I do it again? In a
heartbeat!"
"As always, I'm reminded that for the culture moving
towards the setting sun, the West is a place of dreams. 'Out
there' is a better place, a place of hopes, a place a man can carve
for himself something he can call his own."
"Although Horace Greely, the person who supposedly said,
'Go West young man and grow old with the land,' tried to keep
people from going West by blasting the journey as lunacy, the
people go. Their hunger drives them and the Pioneer Spirit,
'Americanism,' can't be crowded by ghostly tales. 'We
proceeded on...'"
